Dimension: 6
The third installment of a saga crafted with great care, which, although it does not introduce any paradigm shifts, aims high in terms of refining both the gameplay and the visual aspect. On top of that, the genre itself is already quite complex, and the ambition of showing such detailed movements of resources and the life of the citizens adds to it. In short, despite being a game that recycles many elements, the scope is ambitious enough.
The Flair: C
I think it’s worth starting by talking about the phenomenal soundtrack, which is as varied as it is surprising. At first glance, the graphics may seem rough and lacking in detail compared to other games of the era, but being a strategy game, when focusing on the visual details of each event and the possible mechanics, we realize that it is of great quality.
The Feel: D
The greatest virtue of this game is how, despite its limitations in terms of content (which we will discuss shortly), it manages to captivate you thanks to the ingenious depth of its mechanics and the challenge of progressively growing and improving your empire. The sense of satisfaction you get when you're efficient with resource gathering and make your colony prosper is immense, and the only thing that could be criticized is the combat and diplomacy, which are a couple of steps below what they could be.
The Fuel: A
In terms of content, the game is fairly bare bones. It lacks a single-player campaign mode, only offering what they call "Continuous play," which is a custom game where you set all the parameters yourself, from difficulty to victory conditions and the inclusion of specific mechanics, which usually add more challenge. Besides that, there is also a section with 10 predefined scenarios that frankly serve more as a gradual tutorial for learning all the mechanics in depth than anything else. In fact, in the expansion "Sunken Dragon," the campaign mode was introduced in response to player suggestions.

Conclusions
Anno 1701 is a great strategy and simulation game that has a strong ability to hook you once you learn the basics. It's a title that doesn’t aim to create the most ambitious or innovative formula, but it is an excellently polished one, and if it had featured a well-developed and incrementally challenging campaign mode, it could have been truly outstanding.
