Creating a mission-based FPS for a console like the N64 was certainly ambitious. The game’s size and the number of missions are substantial.
The Flair: E
Compared to other FPS games of the era, GoldenEye boasts splendid graphics, although the framerate is a bit tight. The photorealism technique used for the characters' faces is hilarious by today's standards, but it was cool back in 1997. Of course, the classic 007 soundtrack is always excellent.
The Feel: E
It's hard to put in words how satisfying the shootings are in this game, even decades later. Although it takes a bit to get used to the N64 controls, its unique layout ends up working very well. The only major flaws are the manual aim, which is truly tedious, and the use of mission items, which breaks the tempo and is usually not very intuitive.
The Fuel: D
The engaging campaign is based on the original movie, with minimal story elements that act as a narrative bridge connecting the missions. There is a decent arsenal of weapons and gadgets, and the level design is also excellent in terms of variety and quality. The fact that difficulty dictates what objectives have to be carried out is a unique trait that gives depth of content and definitely increases replayability.

Conclusions
GoldenEye 007 is one of the N64's most treasured exclusive games. It can take a bit of memory-freshening to appreciate just how good this game was when it was released. With exceptional gameplay, an engaging single-player campaign, and great technical specs, it’s an outstanding all-round title that deservedly won the first-ever Game of the Year award.
