An entry in the John Madden Football franchise, it includes several enhancements since the last installment.
The Flair: C
Trademark EA Sports visuals and menus, which are nice and pleasing to the eyes. There are some bizarre live-action cutscenes, which was kind of a trend at the time. Not much of a soundtrack besides the main menu theme, which is okay.
The Feel: C
The mechanics regarding tactics are remarkably realistic and well-made. Unfortunately, when it comes to actually playing the game, it feels slightly faltering. It lacks the momentum of speed and adrenaline vital in sports titles, and neither attacking nor defending is especially thrilling.
The Fuel: C
There's a great selection of NFL original teams, including historical sides like the '72 Dolphins or the '86 Giants. On top of that, the inclusion of video highlights for each team is endearing. However, there are no players' licenses or names, and the fact that you can only play standalone matches doesn't promote long campaigns.

Conclusions
John Madden Football is a great entry in the franchise and one of the best sports games for the 3DO. While that might not sound like a very impressive feat, it truly stands toe-to-toe with other great sports titles of the generation.
