Wave Race Blue Storm is a continuation title from N64's Wave Race. Leaving that aside, this title was one of the GameCube's original launch titles, and it was important to exploit the capabilities of the new console and showcase a technical upgrade, as well as an improvement in the gameplay.
The Flair: E
The water visuals left us speechless for such an old title, they truly are impressive. Since water is the core element in the game, that alone makes for a very remarkable technical area. The sound effects and soundtrack are both great as well, with some generic frantic themes that enhance the experience in and out of the circuits.
The Feel: D
Playing this game feels like a rollercoaster. There are some points where you can literally feel as if you were riding the jet ski yourself, the water physics are masterfully implemented and the sensation of traversing the circuits is very realistic and satisfying. However, there's also a constant threat of suddenly end up unexpectedly crashing into the tiniest, silliest border of the map, and then literally go from 1st to last. That's all it takes, one slight overturn or a badly timed turbo and the fun is insta-killed. As you get better at the game, this feeling ends up blurring away, but still, it's so painful during the first hours.
The Fuel: B
Decent amount of game modes - although championship is by far the best one - as well as a good variate roster of characters with very different and noticeable traits. The amount of circuits and their quality leaves a bit to be desired though, and most of all, an easy difficulty mode to make learning the game less frustrating. It's overall a solid title in terms of content.

Conclusions
Wave Race: Blue Storm is a really good racing title that truly submerged us in great fun thanks to its frantic gameplay and sumptuous water physics and visuals. The difficulty curve is very steep and can make those first hours very tough, but if you make it past that learning period you'll be rewarded with a top-notch treat of a racing game.
